Dry Eye, is a condition of inadequate tear film. It can be caused by ageing, medication (anti-histamines, oral contraceptives, anti-depressants), dehydration, dry climates, air travel, exposure to wind, inflammation of the eyelids, eye surgery, chronic diseases and even poor blinking habits e.g. staring at a computer or TV. The symptoms of dry eye include irritation, burning, redness, mucous accumulation, itching and even eye sensitivity.

This ancient herb herbal complex, of eastern origin, directly affects the main and accessory lacrimal gland, stimulating the secretion of aqueous tears. In addition, it acts as a mucolytic by breaking down the mucopolysaccharide chains, which results in a decrease in viscosity of mucous layer tears. A European study suggested that this extract has a beneficial effect in increasing lacrimal and salivary gland function. The herbal extract directly stimulates the globlet cells on the conjunctiva to produce moresialo mucus, thereby alleviating dry eye symptoms.

• Flaxseed Oil is a rich source of Omega 3, 6 and 9 essential fatty acids. It directly affects the production of oil by the tear glands. The tear film contains several different components in addition to the watery part of the tears. Lipids or oils are made by the glands in the eye, which stabilise the tear film and help retard evaporation of tears from the surface of the eye, thereby alleviating dry eye syndrome.

Research has proven that a deficiency of Omega 3,6 and 9 fatty acids is positively linked to dry eye syndrome. In the November 2001 issue of Ocular Surgery News it was reported that Dr. Carol F. Boerner, an Ophthalmologist in Brookline, USA did a prospective study, treating 200 of her patients with dry eyes over a 3 year period with flaxseed oil, taken orally. 85% of the patients had total relief of their symptoms after the first 2 months. In addition the flaxseed oil also caused the hair and nails to grow more quickly, lowered triglycerides and made platelets less sticky.

• Lecithin is a fat-like substance called a phospholipid. It is required by every cell in the body and is a key building block of cell membranes; without it they would harden. Lecithin protects cells from oxidation and largely comprises the protective sheaths surrounding the brain. It is composed mostly of B vitamins, phosphoric acid, choline, linoleic acid and inositol. Although it is a fatty substance, it is also a fat emulsifier. Hence, it supports the circulatory system.

    I've been taking fithealth dry eye caps for 2 weeks and I can't believe it! my eyes feel so much better, i'm less sensitive to sunlight, the white stringy mucus coming out of my eyes corner has almost stopped, before taking this pills just a few minutes with a fun in front of me, my eyes felt so unconfortable sandy, gritty and watery. this pills are worthy every cent!
